Dell Offers Latest Intel Processors on Select Dimension Desktops, Dell Precision
Workstations
Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today began offering
new Pentium 4 processors to performance-minded customers on select Dimension(tm) desktops
and Dell(tm) Precision workstations. All of these processors feature Hyper-Threading
technology and utilize an 800MHz front side bus to ensure strong performance across a wide
variety of applications.
Next Generation Pentium 4
Next generation Pentium 4 processors are
now available as options for Dimension XPS and Dell Precision 360 workstation customers.
Dell also will offer these processors on the Dimension 8300 by mid-February.
Along with HT technology, they feature a
1MB Level 2 cache, and will initially be available at speeds up to 3.2GHz. They are also
the first Pentium 4 processors that utilize a new set of 13 specialized instructions,
designed to help them complete certain tasks more efficiently. Together, these
enhancements can improve overall performance in processor-intensive applications and some
digital content creation activities.
Dell will offer the 3.4GHz version of
this processor when it becomes available from Intel later in the quarter.
Latest Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
For Dimension XPS customers who want
powerful Pentium 4 performance, Dell offers the newest Extreme Edition processor. Running
at 3.4GHz, the latest processor features a 2MB Level 3 cache, the largest available on a
Pentium 4 processor.
This cache size allows the processor to
load large files like graphic frame buffers before they are needed by the processor. This
preloading helps improve performance in demanding applications like 3-D gaming, video
editing and encoding.
Updated Pentium 4
Dell will also offer the upgraded
Northwood core-based Pentium 4 processor running at 3.4GHz that Intel introduced today.
This processor, like the 3.2GHz version before it, features a 512KB L2 cache, and utilizes
an 800MHz front side bus. This new Pentium 4 is designed to offer a performance boost for
high-end Dimension 8300, XPS and Dell Precision 360 workstation customers in a wide
variety of applications, from general office productivity to audio and video encoding.
The single-processor Dell Precision 360
workstation offers customers the fastest Intel Pentium 4 clock speeds available and an
array of workstation-class OpenGL graphics products, certified with the industry's leading
workstation applications for some of the best 2- and 3-D performance available. Complete
product details can be found at www.dell.com/precision.
Both the Dimension 8300 and XPS systems
are built to handle the demanding needs of high-end consumers and gaming enthusiasts. They
support high-end Pentium 4 processors and a variety of graphics card options, including
the 256MB Radeon(tm) 9800 XT, RAID hard drive capability, plus memory and hard drive
options to help deliver top performance. Additional details can be found at www.dell.com/dimension
